Bei bestimmten Verben stehen nach dem direkten Objekt noch eine Ergänzung zu diesem Objekt. Diese Ergänzungen kann ein Nomen oder ein Adjektiv sein.

 

Anschluss der Ergänzung mit oer ohne Präposition

 

Beispiele:

The gold in California attracted thousands of pioneers, but it didn't make them all rich.
Today many people still regard America as the land of endless opportunities.
The Americans chose George Washington as their leader during the War of Independence.
Later they elected him President, and after his death they called their new capital city Washington after him.

 

Die Ergänzung wird bei manchen Verben mit, bei anderen ohne Präposition angeschlossen.

Ohne Präposition Mit Präposition (as oder for)

make (someone happy)

find (somthing interesting)

call (s.o. a snob)

think (s.o. intelligent)

appoint (s.o. captain)

elect (s.o. president)

regard (s.th.) as (certain)

recognize (s.th.) as (a fact)

think of (s.th.) as (natural)

look upon (s.o.) as (a hero)

choose (s.o.) as (one's leader)

take (s.o.) for (a fool)
